Despite the persistent floods in some areas of Dagupan City, classes have resumed for many, but students in zones that are flooded heavily have stayed home for safety.

In Barangay Pantal, Daniela Almendarez carries her Grade 2 child through the flood to avoid missing school.

“Baha sa amin talaga, kaya lang papasukin ko ang anak ko para matuto, pero sinabihan naman kami na kung baha pa, huwag na muna papasukin,” she explained.

While the flood has receded in several schools, learners in areas still submerged remain at home.

The Schools Division Office of Dagupan City prioritizes safety, particularly to avoid waterborne diseases like leptospirosis.

"I'm actually telling them not to go to school kasi high risk sa leptos kapag lumusong sila sa baha," Superintendent Dr. Rowena Banzon said.

In West Central Elementary School 1, over 100 students are still unable to attend due to flooding, as of this writing.

To ensure their learning continues, teachers are distributing modules.

“Hindi sila fino-force na pumasok kasi safety first ang gusto namin, sinabihan namin mga parents,” Renato Santillan, the school principal, said.

The Division Office assures parents that students' absences will not affect their grades as long as safety is the priority.
