A man took members of his family hostage for about an hour in Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City.
According to the police, alias “Ray” went to his mother’s house wielding a knife and a hammer on September 7, 2024.
At that time, his sibling who was with two children were in the house.
At the sight of "Ray" about to attack them, they ran toward a room for safety. The suspect went after them and attempted to pry open the door.
“Inatake niya. Mabuti nga lang pumasok sila sa kwarto, at ni-lock nila ang pinto. May dala itong patalim at martilyo. Gusto rin sanang lumabas ng pamilya, kaya lang, sarado ang gate,” Captain Francis Depasucat, chief of Police Station 4, said.
According to the police, the suspect got irate when by accident hot water spilled on his hands and went furious when he stepped on a nail.
Operatives scaled a perimeter wall to gain entry inside the house and neutralized further threat.
The suspect later said he regrets what he had done to members of his family.
“Nadala lang ako ng galit ko kasi nilalagnat pa ako that time. Sana hindi na maulit ito,” alias “Ray” said.
It was learned that “Ray” once worked as a bartender in Malaysia and in Singapore but was cut short when Covid-19 was declared a pandemic.
Police said that despite familial ties, his sibling is determined to file a case against the suspect for grave threat and alarm and scandal.
Further, it was learned that “Ray” is still under probation for a case on illegal possession of firearms.
“Ma-rebook ang kanyang probation sa [Republic Act No.] 10591 or illegal possession of firearm. Nakatakda siyang silbihan ng warrant,” Depasucat added.
