A person was killed in a collision of motorbancas in Ajuy town, Iloilo Province.

The 23-year-old man was found floating off the coastline of Barangay Nasidman in Ajuy at about 2 p.m. on September 8, 2024.

The man was identified only as “Rene.” He was on board a motorbanca with his elder brother at about 3 a.m. on September 8, 2024 on their way out at sea to fish when they were hit by a bigger motorbanca with four passengers.

The motorbanca that “Rene” and his brother had boarded on capsized.

"Rene" went missing for approximately 11 hours.

According to the investigation of Ajuy Police, a section of the motorbanca could have hit the victim and knocked him out.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

His brother, identified only as “Ralf,” 28 years old, was injured but, as of this writing, he is already in stable condition.

The Philippine Coast Guard disclosed that the two motorbancas have blinkers, but could have miscalculated the direction they were taking as it was pitch dark.

"Rene" would have turned 24 years old on September 9, 2024, his brother said.

The police are waiting for the decision of the victim's family on the filing of a case against the skipper or operator of the motorbanca.
