#EntengPH, accompanied by the southwest monsoon, left a trail of destruction in Pangasinan, with damage to agriculture and infrastructure exceeding P100 million, according to the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Farmers have been hit the hardest, including 61-year-old Bernardo Quines of Barangay Lanas, Mangaldan who lost over three hectares of rice fields.

Heavy rain and strong winds flattened his crops, forcing him to harvest early.

“Tinali-tali namin para tumayo, tapos hinarvester namin hindi pa naarawan. Nag-forced harvest na kami dahil dumapa, dahil sa ulan at saka hangin,” Quines said.

The good news is that Quines was able to secure crop insurance, which he hopes will help him recover some of the expenses.

PDRRMO continues to assess the full extent of damage, and Assistant Pangasinan DRRM Officer Avenix Arenas expects the numbers to rise.

“So ini-expect natin na tataas pa ito... ongoing ‘yung ating monitoring at assessment,” Arenas said.

In addition to agricultural losses, PDRRMO is keeping an eye on flooding in the towns of Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Mangatarem, and Dagupan City, which continue to be affected by the aftermath of the storm.
