The Cebu City Government led the commemoration of the 146th birth anniversary of former Philippine President Sergio Osmeña, Sr. deemed the “Grand Old Man of Cebu,” on September 9, 2024.
A program was carried out at Osmeña Boulevard attended by officials of the Local Government Unit of Cebu City and members of the Osmeña clan.
Members of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines marked the tribute with a gun salute and a wreath laying at the marker placed at the intersection of Lapu-Lapu Street and Osmeña Boulevard.
September 9 is observed as a nonworking holiday in the island of Cebu to honor the memory and legacy of the country’s fourth, and the first Cebuano, president.
