Continuous heavy rains from the southwest monsoon have caused rapid flooding in several areas of Pangasinan, prompting evacuations and preemptive warnings.

The home of Charito Quinto, a resident of Barangay Pogo in Mangaldan, is among those flooded due to the non-stop rains.

To prevent further damage, he had to bring their belongings up quickly.

"Baha na po talaga, talagang nahirapan din ako na iakyat ang mga gamit pero wala naman tayong magagawa sa baha," Quinto said.

"Hindi ka makatulog kasi baka aabot na sa loob ang baha," Rebecca Sembrana, another resident, added.

Several barangays in Calasiao, Binmaley, Lingayen, and Dagupan City have also reported floods, with 15 barangays in Calasiao being particularly affected.

The Marusay River in Calasiao has reached above critical levels, raising concerns of more severe flooding.

"In case po na kailanganin ng ating mga kababayan na lumikas, nakahanda naman po ang ating mga evacuation center," said Kristine Joy Soriano, spokesperson of the Calasiao Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

On September 5, 2024, flash floods hit Aguilar, submerging roads and flooding the town’s public market, leading to the evacuation of some residents.

"Ito ‘yung nangyayari sa mga mountainous areas or hilly areas dahil ‘yung mga rainwater from the bundok sa kanilang lugar ay bababa ito," Avenix Arenas, Assistant Pangasinan DRRM Officer, said.

The Pangasinan PDRRMO remains on red alert, closely monitoring the situation across the province.
