Up to 47 towns and cities in Pangasinan suspended classes on September 6, 2024 due to heavy rains and flooding caused by the southwest monsoon.

Salay Elementary School in Mangaldan and Longos Elementary School in San Fabian are among the schools affected, with rising water levels already visible at the gates.

In Longos Elementary, the flooding was even worse.

"Taon-taon itong nangyayari. Baha sa school, kawawa ang mga bata,"Renato Corpuz, a parent concerned about the recurring floods, said.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) is closely monitoring the flooded areas, including schools.

"So far, nagkaroon ng suspension ng klase because of the weather para sa proteksyon ng mga bata, although naghihintay tayo ng report sa mga school na flooded," said Avenix Arenas, Assistant Pangasinan DRRM Officer.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Region 1 is also set to visit areas heavily affected by the recent Typhoon Enteng and the current weather conditions.

Modular learning is being considered in schools with ongoing suspensions due to the bad weather.
