A case for child abuse will be filed against the teacher who bit allegedly two students of Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School (DVRMNHS) in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 7610 or Child Abuse Law will be filed at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office on September 5, 2024, according to the chief of Station 7 of the Cebu City Police Office.
The filing of a case stemmed from a complaint lodged by the father of one of two victims.
The father is a police officer who earlier said in an interview that he is determined to seek justice for his son who is yet of minor age.
Meanwhile, the police are still waiting for the parents of the other victim to pursue charges against the teacher to strengthen further the case.
The police are to submit the medical certificates of the victims and testimonies of witnesses against the MAPEH (Music, Arts,Physical Education, and Health) teacher.
The victims said that the teacher ordered them to take off their shirts and flaunt their abs (abdomen). But the teacher reportedly in a state of "gigil" (a Filipino term that means response to a situation that overwhelms self-control) bit the back of a 17-year-old student, and the shoulder of a 14-year-old student.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has already received a report on the incident, and assured that if the accused is proven guilty, the policy on zero tolerance to abusive acts by a teacher applies.
The news team sought a comment from the accused teacher, but he refused to grant an interview, and left the school hurriedly after a meeting on September 3, 2024.
