A 36-year-old man and his one-year-old daughter died in a tricycle accident in Nueva Ecija.

Mark Anthony Rosario and his youngest daughter, Abegail, were laid to rest side by side at their home in Barangay Malioer, Bayambang, Pangasinan.

They both died after their tricycle crashed into a mahogany tree during a trip in Talavera, Nueva Ecija.

The accident also injured Rosario's wife and two other children.

According to the family, a metal part of the vehicle got detached from the sidecar, causing the tricycle to lose control and crash into the tree.

The impact threw the child off the vehicle.

Myrna Rosario, a relative of the victims, expressed the family's grief.

"Masakit sa amin kasi nabigla kaming lahat. Hindi naman sila nagkasakit. Talagang ang sakit ng kapalaran nila dahil sa araw na ‘yun nabigla kaming lahat kung bakit ganyan ang nangyari," she said.

Rosario also noted that the tricycle was checked regularly.

"Dati naman chine-check buya lahat ang tricycle. ‘Yun lang talaga, sa araw na ‘yun kumalas ‘yung mismong pinag-weldengan," she added.

The family traveled to Nueva Ecija frequently for their bamboo hut-making business.

PCMS Marvin Verde, an investigator from Talavera Police Station, said the area where the accident occurred is prone to accidents.

"May kurbada roon na possible accident-prone area. Pero ang (accident) prone area talaga rito ay ang Maharlika Highway at Bypass road," Verde said.
