A suspected monkeypox case monitored by the Department of Health 7 who was advised for isolation went out to buy grocery items instead.

The incident was disclosed by Dr. Debra Catulong, medical officer of the Mandaue City Health Office.

The incident was reported at the City Council’s session on September 2, 2024 as an update to the situation of suspected monkeypox cases in Central Visayas. 

The suspected patient manifested symptoms that are still to be determined whether that of monkeypox. Blood samples were already collected and sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Manila.

Results will be available in about three weeks, Dr. Catulong said.
