Two persons were reported missing while four were wounded in a landslide in the town of Biri, Province of Northern Samar at the onslaught of #EntengPH. 

Aside from the landslide, at least 14 houses in Barangay Sto. Niño, Biri were destroyed reportedly by strong winds on September 1, 2024 at past 4 p.m. 

Persons reported wounded were listed as alias “Marie,” 64 years old; alias “Luz,” 56 years old; alias “Enia,” 42 years old; and alias “Mae,” eight years old, all residents of Purok 1 in Barangay Sto. Niño.  

Residents said that aside from the landslide brought about by heavy rains, a whirlwind destroyed houses.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit of Biri, through its official social media account, denied of any “tornado” that struck the area contrary to reports that circulated earlier. 

“Waray po buhawi nga panhitabo sa Barangay Sto. Niño. Makusog la gud man an hangin siton nga mga oras,” LGU-Biri, Northern Samar said. 

However, it disclosed the identity of two missing persons to be Federico Galvan Sabangan, Sr., 76 years old; and Federico Acuña Sabangan, Jr., 39 years old. 

“Missing pa la po, diri pa maii-consider nga casualty kay waray pa ebidensya,” the post added.

Search and rescue operations are going on, as of posting time. 

Further, LGU-Biri confirmed of three persons who sustained lacerated wounds during the landslide, and another who suffered from hypertension.

“Ug sugad man, may mga landslide-related injuries nga na-account an Biri District Hospital: 3 persons sustained lacerated wounds and 1 person has a medical condition (hypertension). Three of them have already been discharged,” LGU-Biri said.
