Solar panels were blown away from the rooftop of a school inside the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City as two helicopters hovered at about 9 a.m. on August 30, 2024.

One of two choppers was seen to have flown too close to the rooftop of Jose Maria College.

The presence of choppers near the rooftop generated a lot of wind that sent solar panels falling off their roof mounts.

Based on a photograph taken by members of KOJC, a person bearing a semblance to that of Police Regional Office 11 Director, Police Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III was spotted.

According to KOJC members, the destruction of properties has an effect on the school and its students as it would  take time to replace the solar panels being reportedly costly.

“We are writing a demand letter for them to explain why they had to do it, to the mind of the KOJC members, it is purposive -- purposive to harass, it was done to harass and as a consequence, solar panels were destroyed,” Atty. Israelito Torreon, chief legal counsel of KOJC, said.

“The fact that the PNP led allegedly by General Torre ordered the chopper to be near the rooftop of JMC building is really criminal in nature. So right now, we are crafting a demand letter to be accountable for that act,” Torreon added.

As for the Philippine National Police (PNP), it has not confirmed yet whether there were two helicopters that hovered at KOJC property, but it assured that the procedure was part of its ongoing operations.

“Part ito ng ongoing police operations natin sa loob to give clear view sa ground. Knowing na napakalawak, nangyari is, we are looking supposed areas inch by inch. So yun po ang nagbibigay-tulong on people on the ground,” Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Augustus Alba, acting director for Police Community Relations of the PNP, said.

However, PNP has not issued a statement yet on the solar panels destroyed by the hovering of helicopters.
