A senior citizen who ranted about the bad taste of “tubâ” (coconut toddy) was attacked by his drinking buddy with a sickle.

The 60-year-old victim sustained a wound on his neck after his drinking buddy got furious at his comment and slit his neck open.

The incident happened in Carmen town, north Cebu on August 27, 2024 at past 3 p.m.

According to Cebu Police, the victim reportedly kept complaining at the bad taste of the coconut toddy produced and sold by his drinking buddy, the 56-year-old suspect. 

The suspect got mad, but in an investigation by the police it was the victim who first threw a punch. The suspect pulled out a sickle that was wrapped around his waist and moved to slit the victim’s neck. 

Despite his wound, the victim was able to get help and was taken to the hospital immediately by responders. 

The suspect was arrested and is set to face charges for frustrated homicide. 

The suspect has remained mum about the incident, as of posting time. 

Police Col. Percival Zorilla, director of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, said that the two already had a previous altercation and were engaged in a fistfight.
