Chat messages of the slain student from Bacolod City with her cousin were turned over to the La Carlota City Police for review as part of the pieces of evidence seen to help resolve the case.
According to Bacolod City Police Station 9, a copy of the chat messages was turned over to the La Carlota City Police which showed the exchanges Pearl Joy, 15 years old, had with her cousin.
Pearl Joy was set to meet someone on July 29, 2024 before she went missing. On August 14, 2024, her body was found dumped in a sugarcane field in Barangay Cubay, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
“Ang ka-chat niya, niyaya siyang mamasyal pero hindi sumama si Pearl. Doon natin titingnan kung after na umalis siya sa school, may pinuntahan pa siyang ibang [lugar],” Captain Michael Tuburan, chief of Bacolod City Police Station 9, said.
Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Bacolod District Office mulled on asking permission from the Galve family to have a second autopsy on the remains of the victim.
“Gusto sana nating malaman how long siya namatay bago siya na-discover. Yun sana ang gusto nating makita sa autopsy. I knew she was raped,” Atty. Manuel Fayre Jr., agent in chief of NBI Bacolod District Office, said.
The result of the autopsy indicated that the victim was beaten, and that sexual assault is possible, according to the La Carlota City Police.
Fayre has expressed his dismay over Jennifer Galve, the mother of Pearl Joy for alleged noncooperation to the investigation.
“…na nanay na yan, sinabi na nung bata sa kanya na may problema. Hanggang ngayon, may tinatago pa rin siya…,” Fayre said.
He said that information from the mother would help cement the case against the perpetrator or more of them, but the alleged noncooperation made him suspicious.
He warned that the mother could be the first to be charged if she continues to be uncooperative.
“Doon sa nanay niya, hindi ko alam kung bakit ganun na lang yung holdings niya. Kung hindi siya makipag-cooperate sa amin, siya ang una kong kakasuhan,” Fayre said.
Jennifer has not responded yet to Fayre's statement.
In the latest interview, Jennifer sought a temporary restraining order against her live-in partner, alias “Rene,” considered by the NBI as a suspect to the crime.
