A 59-year-old farmer in Barangay Mainit Sur, Perez, Quezon was killed by lightning while seeking shelter near a coconut tree during a rainstorm.

The lightning strike occurred around 3 p.m., leaving visible marks on the coconut tree and burning plants nearby.

The victim was standing next to the tree at that time.

Reneboy Perez, Assistant Investigator at Perez Police Station, said.

The victim had informed his wife that he was going to gather coconuts for dinner. When he did not return home, his family became concerned.

Authorities confirmed that there was no foul play involved, and the family has accepted the tragic incident.

Sunog din po 'yung balat," Perez said.

Authorities urge the public to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas when there is lightning to prevent such tragic incidents.
