The Municipal Agriculture Office of Virac, Catanduanes has begun capturing stray dogs and cats. The problem, however, is that the animal shelter it has brought the animals to is already crowded.

From August 1 to 27, 2024, the team has captured 60 dogs and seven cats, all of which were brought to the local animal shelter.

As of this writing, only five pet owners have claimed their animals, and three pets have been adopted.

The animal shelter is now nearly full, yet it only covers about five percent of the entire municipality.

The office is urging pet owners to be more responsible to prevent further issues.

Reynaldo Isidoro, a Livestock Technician at the Municipal Agriculture Office, made a plea to pet owners.

"Sana po makipag-cooperate kayo sa amin kasi alam naman natin na mahirap ang ganitong program kung talagang hindi po kayo makikipag-cooperate. Mapupuno agad [ang shelter], ang pagasa lang naming pag ma-claim o ma-adopt," Isodoro said.

The office also reminded pet owners to take better care of their dogs and cats to avoid problems, and ensure the welfare of their pets.
