Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo has surrendered to authorities following a warrant for his arrest related to two counts of murder.

On August 27, 2024, at around 12:55 a.m., Baldo turned himself in to the Camalig Municipal Police Station (MPS), accompanied by Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin Baldo.

He was checked and found to be in good health.

Baldo was placed under the custody of the Camalig MPS while awaiting his commitment order.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Baldo will not receive special treatment and will be monitored by his doctor.

“Kung ano po ang magiging instruction or guidance sa atin ng korte yun po ang susundin natin, dahil kailangan po siyang mai-turn in doon sa nag-issue na korte," PBGen. Andre Dizon, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO5), said.

The arrest warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court in the National Capital Region for two counts of murder.

The charges stemmed from the 2018 murder of former Ako Bicol Representative Rodel Batocabe and his police aide, Master Sergeant Orlando Diaz.

The Batocabe family is hopeful for justice.

"Justice will be serve[d] when there is a conviction, yan lang po," Atty. Justin Batocabe, son of former Rep. Rodel Batocabe, said.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bicol assured that local government operations in Daraga will not be disrupted.

“Sa Local Government Code, nagtatakda naman dun na yung vice mayor will assume as acting mayor," Atty. Arnaldo Escober Jr., Regional Director of DILG Bicol, said.
