Saying that the public needs clarification from the Philippine National Police, Davao Mayor Sebastian Duterte asked the PNP how long its men intend to stay at the compound of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) where they are searching for its leader, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

In a statement released evening on August 26, 2024, Duterte said the police have not been following proper procedure in implementing the warrant against Quiboloy.

"We respect the implementation of any warrant of arrest as long as it is in accordance with the law. However, we have observed that the PNP personnel led by General Marbil and General Torre are no longer following proper procedure in implementing the warrant especially the use of excessive force against innocent citizens and their unauthorized occupation at the KOJC compound," Duterte said.

DuHe said that in as much as he would want to intervene, the police will only listen to the PNP chief and to the commander-in-chief, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

During the course of the police operation at the compound, 16 KOJC members were reportedly injured while several others suffered from heart attack and anxiety attack. One other member succumbed reportedly to a cardiac arrest.

For three days since the operation started on August 24, 2024, the police have not found any trace of Quiboloy.

Evening on August 25, KOJC members staged a prayer rally outside the compound near the airport, which spilled over to the street and evolved into a protest against the alleged abuses committed by the police. They have not pulled out, as of this writing.

Duterte said the city government acknowledges KOJC's right to protest but called on the members to do the same "in a peaceful manner and refrain from doing activities that will disrupt traffic flow to ensure the safety of your members and of the public."

"To my fellow Dabawenyos, be assured that Davao City's safety and security are the top priorities of the city government. We are committed to maintaining a peaceful and secure environment for all Dabawenyos, and we will continue to address any threats against our city," he added.

He asked the police:

"This situation has already caused inconvenience to motorists, businesses, and the public. The public seeks clarification from the PNP, how long do you intend to stay at the KOJC property?"
