Members of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy trooped to the airport road in Davao City evening on August 25, 2024 to protest the alleged abuses committed by policemen who scoured the KOJC compound in the city to arrest Quiboloy.
"Grabe ang pagpang-abuso," the group's spokesperson at the rally said.
It was around 6 p.m. when the KOJC members started a prayer rally at the northbound lane of the Carlos P. Garcia Highway in front of the KOJC compound. The commotion started when someone allegedly cut their source of electricity.
This was when KOJC members started occupying the airport road. The airport then closed its exit gate.
KOJC Minister, Carlo Catiil, who spoke at the mic, said the group will stay where they are.
"Mamahawa mi diri if you can convince us that it is a lawful order," he said, pertaining to the way the police carried out the search order.
Tires were seen burned in the middle of the road. Catiil said they burned the tires because the police allegedly used tear gas against its members.
The police exercised maximum tolerance.
After scouring the KOJC compound for two days, starting on April 24, the police, led by the Police Regional Office (PRO)-11, did not find Quiboloy there.
But Catiil said the police should already have left.
"Why are you staying at the compound when the search is over? Hindi kami makatulog kasi in-occupy ninyo ang mga quarters namin," he said.
"Binaboy nyo. Binastos nyo ang aming compound. Sagrado ito sa amin, sir. Bakit ninyo binastos?" he said.
"Dili mi mahadlok mamatay kay naa mi sa kamatuoran," Catiil said further.
Afternoon on August 25, KOJC's lawyer, Atty. Israelito Torreon, asked the police to leave the compound.
“I would like to request them formally again that they leave the premises knowing that the search has already been done. Note that the search was even supposedly illegal but we just allowed it to prevent bloodshed,” Torreon said.
During the course of the police operation at the compound, 16 KOJC members were reportedly injured while several others suffered from heart attack and anxiety attack. One other member succumbed reportedly to a cardiac arrest.
