The Cagayan Valley Region has implemented checkpoints at entry and exit points following an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) that has affected several towns in Isabela, Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya.

Dr. Manuel Galang Jr., focal person of the Department of Agriculture-Cagayan Valley Anti-ASF program, announced that the sale of pork from areas affected is now prohibited to prevent the virus from spreading further.

Among the areas affected are the towns of:

  • Sta. Fe, Dupax del Norte, Dupax del Sur, and Bambang in Nueva Vizcaya,
  • Angadanan and San Guillermo in Isabela; and,
  • Enrile and Iguig in Cagayan.

More than 124 pigs have been culled in these areas as part of containment measures.

Galang said at least 600,000 doses of anti-ASF vaccines are expected to arrive to aid in controlling the outbreak.
