The National Bureau of Investigation-National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) raided stores at the downtown area of Cebu City found to be selling counterfeit razors, blades, and other products of a popular brand.

The seized items were estimated to be worth over P1 million.

The search warrant was issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC)-National Capital Judicial Region.

NBI-NCR operatives, led by Special Investigator Rafael Gonzaga, raided four stores in the vicinity of the Carbon area in Cebu City.

Gonzaga said that surveillance and test-buy operations were conducted prior to application of the search warrant against four stores.

The issuance of the search warrant was based on a complaint of the brand representative.

Aside from unfair trade practices that affect the sales of the legit brand, the counterfeit disposable shaving products also offer poor quality that highly poses health risks.

Gonzaga pointed out that the bogus shaving products easily get corroded that pose danger of skin irritation, or worse, contamination or infection in case of nicks or cuts.

However, a manager of one of the stores said he has no idea he is selling fake products as he gets his supplies from panel trucks that deliver the goods right at the store’s location.

A legit razor would cost about P100 a piece. The fake version is sold at P12.50 only per piece.

Gonzaga said they will file a case against the owner of the stores for violation of Section 155.1 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act 8293 on trademark infringement.
