More than 20 families were evacuated after a flood protection structure along the riverbank in Barangay Candating, Arayat, Pampanga collapsed over the weekend.
Authorities said the continuous rains brought about by the southwest monsoon may have softened the soil, causing it to give in.
The ground reportedly sank deeply.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
The damaged riverbank settlement is a flood mitigation facility project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which started in March 2024 and is expected to be completed in November 2024.
