Dengue hemorrhagic fever has claimed the life of three persons in Iloilo City in 2024. The latest casualty is a woman from the district of Jaro.

According to the latest data released by the Iloilo City Health Office (CHO), the 28-year-old woman who is the third to succumb to dengue this year was also found positive for Covid-19 via RT-PCR test.

Iloilo City, as of posting time, has recorded 649 dengue cases, 42 of which are active cases.

Meanwhile, in Tigbauan town in Iloilo Province, dengue cases reportedly reached 91. Seven barangays have clustering of dengue cases. But according to the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO), dengue cases in Tigbauan has already hit 117; no death toll was recorded. 

This means that the two figures have to go through consolidation. Despite different data, the figures shed light that the cases are on a spike which called for the declaration of Tigbauan under a state of calamity.

According to Mayor Virgilio Teruel, the local government unit’s Quick Response Fund can now be utilized to purchase larvicide, dengue test kits, mosquito nets, among other essentials.

Earlier, the City of Passi declared a state of calamity after a dengue outbreak was recorded.

According to the criteria, the Provincial Government may declare a state of calamity after two or more LGUs have done so. 

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon, presided a meeting with the Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) on August 15, 2024 to discuss measures in dealing with the dengue outbreak and a recommendation to declare a state of calamity province-wide.

From January 2024 to August 2024, dengue cases logged in Western Visayas hit over 10,000. The most number has been recorded in the Province of Iloilo with 4,595 cases.
