A tornado hit the boundary of Basista and Urbiztondo in Pangasinan, damaging nearly 30 homes and bringing down trees on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

A cell phone video captured metal roofing flying in the air. The video also recorded the frightened cries of residents.

Another video showed fallen trees blocking roads.

"Biglang may parating, ang itim. Akala ko bubuhatin ang mga kawayan diyan. Saglit lang dumaan pero malakas. Nakita ko kuliglig (motorized cart) ko, wasak na," Wilfredo Collado, a resident, said.

According to the Basista Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the tornado damaged 26 homes in the barangay.

"Grabe, malakas; actually, pagkatapos ng buhawi, noong pinasyalan ko na sila agad, kapag nakita mo talaga ang mga bahay — grabe parang warak," Josephine Robillos, the DRRM officer, said.

In Barangay Pasibi East, Urbiztondo, three homes were also affected.

The roof of Dorina Quitano’s second-floor house was ripped off, and a piggery nearby was almost destroyed.

"Hindi ko na namalayan na naalis ang bubong namin dahil nandito ako sa baba. Naglu-lunch kami, lumakas ang ulan at hangin... napansin ko wala na ang bubong namin dahil maliwanag na," Dorina said.

The local government unit (LGU) will assist the residents affected.

Meanwhile, a waterspout was seen forming at sea in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. It disintegrated after a few minutes.

No fisherman was in the area when the waterspout formed.
