A 28-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly drove her motorcycle into the bike lane of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon event in Davao City on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
During the bike course, the woman allegedly ignored the warning of the police and still entered the route from Toril, Davao City until she reached Barangay Darong in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur where she was arrested.
The woman will face charges for resistance and disobedience to a person in authority, driving without license, non-wearing of helmet, and other traffic violations.
In an interview with GMA Super Radyo Davao, the woman did not address the issue directly, except to say:
"I'm not here to harm anybody. I'm just a woman. I'm from the poor, we are powerless. I just want to be heard and I just want us to have equal rights,” the woman said.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said the international triathlon event took place peacefully.
A 50-year-old Dutch national was hailed the overall champion after he finished first in the swim, bike, and run courses.
“I do this already for 35 years. So, for me, it was just normal preparation but I felt I was good before the race so but I am 50 years old, so you never know what happens in the race,” overall champion, Eric Van Der Linden, said.
