Baguio City's Smoke-Free Task Force destroyed an estimated ₱2 million worth of confiscated cigarettes and vapes in a ceremonial event held on August 8, 2024.

The event was part of the city's ongoing efforts to promote a smoke-free environment, particularly for the youth, and to protect them from the harmful effects of tobacco products.

The items destroyed were confiscated previously by the task force during their operations.

The local government said the destruction of the products is meant to send a strong message about their commitment to making Baguio City a smoke-free zone.

Following the event, the confiscated tobacco products and e-cigarettes were disposed of in compliance with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) standards for the disposal of hazardous waste.
