Charges for murder were filed on August 6, 2024 against the suspect in the slay of a former barangay chairman of Ingore, La Paz, Iloilo City.

La Paz Police filed murder charges against Nilo Guardaya, the alleged gunman in the shooting to death of Ernie Poral in Barangay Baldoza on August 5, 2024, while the ex-barangay captain was out to buy chicken feeds at a “talipapa” (flea market).  

Guardaya was arrested in Guimbal town in the Province of Iloilo on the night of the same day. He was found to have other cases such as illegal possession of firearm and possession of illegal drugs filed by Guimbal Police.

The Iloilo City Police Office has continued to verify information on other possible motives that led to the shooting.  

The police have investigated angles such as other persons involved possibly in the crime.

Autopsy result had it that the victim sustained two fatal wounds on the head.

The suspect did not undergo a paraffin test as gloves were worn by the assailant during the shooting.

Poral is the youngest of six siblings. According to his brother, Edwin, he was a helpful man who stood by his moral principles.

Poral continued to help persons who sought his assistance past his office term as punong barangay, Edwin said.

He added that he does not know of anyone who could have held a grudge against his brother, as Poral has not been in a rift with anyone.

However, prior to the shooting incident, Poral’s family noticed of a man loitering outside of his house as if observing or waiting for someone.
