A fire razed 20 temporary stalls in a market in San Rafael town, Province of Iloilo.
According to witnesses, the fire quickly spread at around 1 a.m. on August 6, 2024.
Nine other stalls set to be turned over formally to vendors as part of the market’s rehabilitation were damaged partially.
Damages were estimated to have reached P9 million, according to fire investigators.
As of posting time, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is still investigating on the fire to determine the cause.
BFP reminded the public, especially market operators and traders, never to leave circuit breakers up and switches on while stalls are unattended or storekeepers are out of the market; as well as to avoid lighting up a candle in storage rooms where flammable liquid items are kept.
