Overloading in public transportation is the number one traffic violation in Dagupan City, Pangasinan in the opening of classes in 2024, according to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 1.

Glorioso Daniel Martinez, Director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 1, said most cases involved tricycles.

In fact, the agency was able to apprehended up to 20 violators in a day.

“Karamihan ‘yung overloading sa mga tricycles… nagkaroon kami ng apprehension last week. May overloaded tricycle, more than 20 sa isang araw,” Martinez said.

Aside from overloading, the LTO also observed that many motorists still do not use helmets.

Martinez said these motorists need to be educated so that they will not figure in accidents on the road.

“Kailangan ma-educate natin lahat ng road users para alam nila ang tama at mali,” Martinez said.

A driver, Glen, admitted that there are times when he accommodates more passengers than what is actually allowed.

“Hindi maiwasan, may lima, anim, pwede rin basta malaki ang sidecar namin… pinupuno para makatipid ang mga estudyante,” he said.

The LTO said commuters and drivers alike can expect more checkpoints so that rules on the road will be implemented strictly.
