Up to 57 schools in Region 1 are still unable to resume face-to-face classes, as of August 5, 2024, due to the effects of the southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by #CarinaPH.

According to the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 1, a total of 336 schools were unable to start classes on July 29.

"Nagkaroon ng class suspension dahil ang kanilang mga paaralan, nagpapadala ng photos sa monitoring sa Regional Office, nakikita doon na nabaha kasi," Cesar Bucsit, Public Affairs Unit Head of DepEd Region 1, said.

Despite these challenges, learning continues as schools implement alternative learning modes.

"Mayroon ýung nagka-conduct ng online, mayroon rin ang blended, at mayroon din ang modular," Bucsit said.

The East Central Integrated School in Dagupan City is one of the schools unable to reopen on July 29. However, classes resumed the following day with the use of alternative learning facilities to accommodate students.

"Although may mga affected pang classrooms na under or affected ng high tide, may alternative classrooms na pinaglagyan sa [learners]," Balibino Nicolas, Jr., Head Teacher III of East Central Integrated School, said.
