The 56-year-old nurse whose arm was ran over by a modernized public utility jeepney (PUJ) in Talisay City, Cebu has pursued a case for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries against the driver.

According to Jonathan Tumulak, chief of the City of Talisay - Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA), the nurse lost her left arm because of the road incident.

The nurse is now recuperating at a private hospital, Tumulak said, and has not agreed to a settlement yet with the driver.

To recall, the nurse was driving her motorcycle when it fell on its side and, in the process, the nurse's outstretched left arm was ran over by the modernized PUJ.

The incident happened at past 7 a.m. on July 25, 2024 along N. Bacalso Avenue (South Cebu Expressway).

In an initial investigation of the Talisay City Traffic Police and CT-TODA, the modernized PUJ was traveling from the Tabunok flyover bound for Cebu City. It was moving slowly on the left outer lane because of the bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The nurse maneuvered her motorcycle from the left outer lane and negotiated slowly toward the inner lane, but the two vehicles met at a point and figured in an accident.

The 57-year-old driver of the modernized PUJ apologized for the incident. He said that he did not notice of the motorcycle driver until a loud thud came at the side of the PUJ near the door, and that the vehicle bounced slightly at the rear part.

The driver is placed under detention.
