A pawnshop was robbed by three men riding a motorcycle in broad daylight in Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro.
The suspects entered the pawnshop and pointed a gun at the tenant and one of the customers. One of the suspects was wearing a black cap and white face mask.
Because of fear, the customer was forced to hand in her jewelry and P5,000 cash to the suspects.
The suspects fled after the tenant was quick to push the alarm button.
According to the barangay council, barangay tanods were able to respond within two minutes but the suspects had already escaped.
“Well, of course, these are rare situations nga mga hitabo kay we don’t know somehow kung unsa ang mahitabo. Our BPAT, our barangay tanod, is working every night and then up to 2 o’clock in the morning,” Barangay Patag Chairman, Eric Abaday, said.
Abaday urged business owners, especially those establishments that operate 24 hours, to hire security personnel.
“But I am also encouraging them that the police visibility should be around the corner not just solving the crime on the aftermath,” Abaday added.
The management of the pawnshop refused to give a statement while the police has yet to respond when asked for comment.
The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) is already investigating the series of robbery incidents in the city.
Police maintained that the robbery cases were isolated, and the city remains safe to do business in.
