The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Carmen in north Cebu Province has looked into the viral video on puppies being fed to snakes and a monitor lizard in a cage.

According to Carmen Municipal Tourism Officer Tobias Villamor that he was one of the first persons to receive complaints from concerned citizens on Friday, July 26, 2024 regarding the disturbing content of the video.

The video was posted on “My Day” on the social media account of a netizen who is allegedly from Carmen town.

The puppies were placed inside the cage purposedly as food to the reptiles, the video suggested.

Villamor said that the LGU had the video screen-recorded before the uploader deactivated the account.

The screen-recorded video will be used as evidence against the perpetrator who was already identified.

Villamor said that there is reason to worry over the video after it was learned that the uploader days ahead announced of the intention to adopt puppies.

“Lain gyud siya, bati gyud siya nga hitabo kay naa man gud nay category ang mga hayop, naay for consumption, naay for pet. So wa gyud na namo gi-tolerate nga ingon ana na mga activities. Si mayor nag-instruct na sa atong kapulisan ug sa local sa barangay nga ipapangita gyud tong nagbuhat,” Villamor said.

Villamor added that they are tracing the whereabouts of the uploader, and they would want to verify if the incident indeed happened in Carmen.

Villamor said that the LGU is keen on filing charges against the uploader and the person who kept the reptiles as pets.

“Mag-file gyud og kuan [case], naay association sa mga dog parents ug sila gyud ang mobarug as complainant gyud ana. Mo-file sila og case,” Villamor added.

Carmen Police have already launched their investigation to the incident.

Meanwhile, in an official statement issued by Island Rescue Organization (IRO) posted on social media, they reminded the community to be wary about persons expressing interest in adopting dogs and cats to ensure the welfare of these animals.
