A man on board his motorcycle was killed by the impact when he rammed into a road center island in Barangay Tisâ, Cebu City at dawn of July 25, 2024.

The incident was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

The footage showed of two speeding motorcycles on F. Llamas Street in Barangay Tisâ, but one slammed into the center island. Its driver was identified as 22-year-old Jesus Cañete Jr., a resident of Barangay Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City who died on the spot.

According to police investigation, the two men were companions who had a drinking spree hours before the incident. The two were already on their way home when the incident happened.

Police Staff Sergeant Lito Busalanan, traffic investigator at the Cebu City Police Office’s Traffic Enforcement Unit, said that based on pieces of evidence he gathered, the man was driving speedily and was driving under the influence of liquor.

The man's companion said they had a few drinks but were not drunk.

Cañete was wearing a crash helmet but it cracked on impact.
