Davao City is planning of installing closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras capable of detecting vehicles exceeding the speed limit, drivers not wearing seatbelts, and individuals using cellphones while driving.

According to Councilor Conrado Baluran, chairperson of the Committee on Transportation and Communications of the City Council, they have installed equipment at the diversion road for the project’s testing and experimentation.

If the test and experiment will succeed, the devices will be installed in the city streets through a private-public partnership.

The project aims to strengthen non-contact apprehensions, enabling the detection of violators even without the physical presence of law enforcement agencies.

Video footage will be monitored by the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO).
