Several residents have been advised to evacuate to avoid being trapped following another landslide on Kennon Road in Benguet.

Landslides have once again struck the mountainous section of Kennon Road, particularly in Purok Millsite, Sitio Camp 6, Barangay Camp 4, Tuba.

As of this writing, Kennon Road remains closed to motorists, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cordillera.

“’Yung iba kasi diyan ay recurring kahit na mag-clear ka ay may babagsak ulit ýun ang problema diyan sa Kennon Road,”Patrick Cirilo, Engineer III of DPWH-CAR, said.

The first landslide was reported on July 23, leaving several residents stranded until half of the road was cleared on July 24. 

Residents have been advised to evacuate if necessary. While some have complied, others have chosen to stay and monitor their homes.

Alternative routes for traveling to Baguio City include Marcos Highway and Naguilian Road.

 “Total[ly] closed [ang kalsada] base sa report Benguet 1st District Engineering Office,” Cirilo said.

As of 11 a.m. of July 25 several other roads in the Cordillera region are also closed. The current list of closed national roads includes:

  • Kennon Road
  • Abra-Ilocos Norte Road
  • City Limit-Sto. Tomas Road
  • Cong. Andres Acop-Cosalan Road
  • Itogon-Dalupirip-San Manuel Boundary Road
  • Baguio-Bontoc Road

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and continue to provide updates on road conditions and safety advisories.
