In Nasugbu, Batangas, a goto vendor was killed when a large acacia tree toppled and fell on him amidst heavy rain and strong winds caused by the Southwest Monsoon, strengthened by #CarinaPH.

The incident occurred in the Poblacion area on the night of July 23, 2024.

"Malakas po ang hangin kagabi eh... mga 6:30 po nang gabi," Rolando Sucgang, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) Officer II of Nasugbu, said.

The fallen acacia tree was old, as confirmed by local authorities.

Meanwhile, the Nasugbu-Magallanes Road in Barangay Bulihan was closed to all vehicles, as of this writing, due to a landslide that blocked the road with large boulders.

The landslide occurred on Monday, and authorities are coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to clear the area and secure it.

"Nakipag-coordinate po kami sa DPWH para doon, and then we cordon[ed] the area, atsaka para hindi matawiran ng ating citizen," Sucgang said.

The situation in the area is still being monitored, and travelers are advised to use the Ternate-Nasugbu Road and the Nasugbu-Tagaytay Highway as alternative routes.

Additionally, strong winds and rain damaged several cottages at a beach in the area.
