A man into the lending business was found dead with a gunshot wound on his tummy and on his face.
Alias “Jun” was found flat on his back by the roadside in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City in the afternoon of July 22, 2024.
The victim was taken to the hospital, but expired there.
According to policemen, Jun’s bodyguard referred to as alias “Ron” said that someone fired a gun at his employer.
However, the authorities are convinced that the firing could have possibly happened inside the sports utility vehicle (SUV) of the victim.
Police have doubts over the statement of the bodyguard who is now considered a suspect to the crime.
Police pointed out that the two could have had a heated argument connected to the lending business.
The chief of police doubted the narrative of the bodyguard because of the absence of a bullet hole on any part of the car.
“Namomorsyento din itong suspek na biktima. Nag-rattle na siya nang mangyari ito. Hinagis niya iyong armas at narekober namin. Sinunod ko ang instinct ko, nang makita ko ang sasakyan na walang bullet hole, nag-doubt na ako,” Captain Francis Depasucat, chief of Police Station 4, said.
Further, it was learned that the gun used, a caliber 45, is not registered.
The victim reportedly had it bought with the help of the bodyguard for protection because of the nature of his business.
A paraffin test was carried out on both the victim and the suspect.
“Malalaman natin sa result kung positive silang dalawa, (kung) may residue. Malalaman kung may komosyon pa sa loob (ng sasakyan),” Lieutenant Colonel Joery Puerto, head of the City Investigation and Detection Management Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office, said.
The shooting incident is the fifth in Bacolod City in July 2024.
GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to reach out for comment from the suspect and the family of the victim, but they refused an interview.
