Residents of Hagonoy, Davao del Sur have complained about the swarm of flies that has plagued some barangays in the town.
In Barangay San Isidro, residents use flypaper and mouse trap pads to get rid of the flies.
"Perwisyo kaayo uy labi na sa among pan, inig-abli namo manulod. Kanang mangaon pud mi, pagpangaon namo perting daghana og langaw,” one of the residents, Marcy Joan Hubac, said.
The nearby barangay of Sinayawan is also affected.
Residents said the flies may have come from the poultry farms in the area.
"Among ginatan-aw ang langaw, inig mutugpa siya, murag naa siyay mabilin nga murag kanang itlog ba kaha na o iti. Ibilin niya sa lyang gitugpahan…Murag possible didto gyud ni sa mga manokan siguro ana,” another resident, Roy Donald Tenebro, said.
According to the municipal government, the source of the infestation is yet to be determined, as of this writing. There are seven layer and broiler farms in the town.
"Naa man gud tay protocol and checklist. Dili ta sya ingon nga, ah tara mangadto ta, manulod ta, dili siya ana. Even small farms, naa tay ginatawag nga biosecurity. So, most of the time, we do a letter, a request then tagaan og instruction ang mga inspector how to do it,” Hagonoy Municipal Information Officer, Cris Alain Trinidad, said.
Massive spraying of chemicals will be carried out in the barangays affected.
