The Provincial Government of Bohol has announced of its mourning over the passing away of acting Governor Dionisio Victor Balite on July 17, 2024, at the age of 52.
"Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy go out to the Balite family during this difficult time. The province has lost a compassionate leader and a true advocate for the people. Rest in peace, Vice Governor Balite. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of many," a post on "Provincial Government of Bohol" page reads.
Vice Governor Balite started serving as acting governor of Bohol in May 2024 when Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado was placed by the Office of the Ombudsman under a six-month preventive suspension while investigation on the illegal structures constructed in the vicinity of Chocolate Hills in Sagbayan town and in Carmen town is being pursued.
Aumentado in his post mourned over the loss of a "good friend and a loyal partner."
"Nawad-an ko og usa ka buotan nga amigo, ug loyal nga ka-partner sa politika, makaguol pero sayod man ta nga ang atong kinabuhi ning kalibutana dili dumalayon. Ang imong mga handumanan sa atong administrasyong Aumentado-Balite akong isipon nga inspirasyon sa pagpadayon sa atong pagserbisyo sa mga Bol-anon," Aumentado said in his post.
He also extended condolences to the Balite family.
"Rest in peace my Vice Governor,” Aumentado added.
As of posting time, no details were given yet as to the cause of Balite's death.
