The Davao City Council is set to summon the top officials of the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) and Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to shed light on the reshuffling of DCPO directors that happened in one day.
Councilor Luna Acosta, chairperson of the Peace and Public Safety committee, passed a resolution inviting PRO-11 Director, Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III and DCPO Director, Colonel Hansel Marantan to explain the rapid changes in the DCPO leadership.
The City Council also invited DILG City Director, Vicky Sarcena.
The chief of DCPO was replaced three times in one day on July 10, 2024. It was Marantan who was designated by PNP chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil to lead the DCPO.
However, Mayor Sebastian Duterte said he was not consulted with the appointment of Marantan.
Under the law, the local chief executive has the final say on who should be the chief of police.
“Actually, kaning si kuan si Marantan ug kani si Torre, naa gyud ni silay mga controversial past ba. So, kung unsa may mahitabo gyud ani diri atong lugar, I wouldn’t be surprised kay daghan kayo og mga extraordinary movements happening within the PNP diri sa region and especially diri sa City,” Duterte said.
Duterte urged the public anew to still follow the laws.
“Kung unsay responsibilidad gyud sa mga tao diri aning dakbayana ni, buot pasabot ana nga mutuman lang sa mga balaod, wala man tay ikabalaka. Pero kana lage, ang dili nako kontrolado kung unsay gikontrol nila karon,” Duterte added.
As of this writing, GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is finding out if the two police officials will appear before the City Council.
