A Navy officer who was arrested after he disarmed a security guard of a subdivision in Lapu-Lapu City posted bail worth P36,000 for grave coercion charges filed against him.

The Navy Officer was seen in a CCTV footage at 6:57 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, to have pointed a gun at a security guard as he grabbed the guard’s shotgun.

In an interview, the security guard who requested anonymity citing personal security, said that the suspect asked for legal documents on his company-issued firearm. However, his refusal reportedly got the ire of the Navy officer.

The guard said that the suspect’s action could have stemmed from their previous altercation. The security guard said there were several times that he and his co-guards called the attention of the Navy officer and his wife for allegedly not having a 2024 sticker that is required in getting access to the subdivision

Earlier on July 12, 2024, the security guard said that he and his co-workers called the couple’s attention once more at the back-gate of the subdivision.

After the suspect took the shotgun from the security guard, officers of the homeowners association called for police assistance.

The Navy officer did not leave the scene, though.

Members of Police Station 5 as well as of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team arrived at the area to respond.

The suspect went with the police and cooperated in the investigation.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Christian Torres, spokesperson of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, that because of the CCTV footage, personnel of Police Station 5 pursued an inquest proceeding.

GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak chanced upon the Navy officer at the Hall of Justice in Lapu-Lapu City on July 15, 2024, but he refused to grant an interview.

Meanwhile, the security guard requested his agency not to assign him at the same post as he is wary of his safety. But he said he is determined to pursue the case against the suspect.

"Ipadayon gyud nako kay kon iya pa tong gipabuto, luoy kaayo ang akong pamilya," the security guard said.

As for the case on usurpation of authority, Torres pointed out it was not pursued because the Navy officer did not use or drop his affiliation with any government agency while he was disarming the security guard.
