The truck ban on Rizal Avenue has been suspended temporarily to accommodate the construction of alternate routes in the town, such as the Duyala Road.
Starting around 9 a.m. on July 16, 2024, heavy trucks were seen passing continuously along Rizal Avenue. The Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) confirmed the temporary suspension, noting the need to facilitate traffic flow while alternate routes are under construction.
Motorists have mixed experiences with the traffic situation with some choosing to avoid Rizal Avenue when large trucks are present.
“Minsan talaga traffic, minsan naman hindi, tsaka may nakabantay naman na enforcer kaya may tumitingin din,” Dante Ventura, a motorist, said.
“Sa iskinita na kami dumadaan para hindi kami ma-traffic,” Rap-Rap Toralban, another motorist, added.
Traffic enforcers are stationed along Rizal Avenue, especially during peak hours from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., to manage the flow of vehicles.
“So far, kayang-kaya naman, sa peak hour sa umaga at hapon lang nagkakakaroon ng build up, bagamat nandiyan ang mga kasama natin, kayang-kaya nilang imando ‘yung mga sasakyan going, and coming to, and passing to our town,” Gerry Ydia, POSO Chief, said.
POSO added that trucks can’t use some alternative roads because of low-hanging power lines.
