At least six people were killed following the massive flooding and landslide in Zamboanga City and Bukidnon.

In Zamboanga City, four people died after a landslide hit Barangay Pamacutan and covered two houses.

One of the houses located in Sitio Papaya was pushed to the river by the landslide.

A 47-year-old man and his 10-year-old son died. Their bodies were recovered from the rivers in San Ramon and Anuling, respectively, on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

Authorities also retrieved the dead bodies of a 29-year-old woman and her six-year-old son morning on Monday, July 15.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), five people were killed due to flooding and landslide in the city.

The local government is planning to relocate those who are living in the area, which is considered as landslide-prone.

“Ginahimo namo karun ang tanan… we will have to address this together with the Sangguniang Panglungsod…sila pwede ba maghimo og ordinasa… I -relocate gani nato,” CDRRMO head, Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, said.

CDRRMO said more than 4,400 families from 32 barangays were affected by the flood.

Meanwhile, a 48-year-old woman identified as Evelyn Candido and her 17-year-old daughter, Rochel, were swept away by raging waters when they crossed the river in Maramag, Bukidnon.

“Yung mother at saka yung dalawang anak niya at yung isang bata pa, they were hesitant, actually, to cross the river kasi maliit pa naman at that time but umuulan. So nag-insist ata yung mother kasama yung 17 years old niya na anak na dalaga… they crossed… yung bata, eight years old, naiwan kasi ayaw sumama daw. So, unfortunately, while in the middle of that river bumuhos yung malakas na tubig,” Office of the Civil Defense-Northern Mindanao (OCD-10) Director, Antonio Sugarol, said.

The dead body of the mother was found in Kayaga, Kabacan, North Cotabato on Sunday. Authorities are still searching for her daughter.

More than 2,000 families were affected by the flood in Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte, OCD-10 added.
