An officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) died while 14 others were injured when a transport vehicle from Daet District Jail turned turtle in Barangay Bautista, Labo, Camarines Norte.

Among those injured were 10 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and four BJMP personnel.

According to the Labo Municipal Police Station (MPS) report, the vehicle was headed to Daet from Labo Proper for a court hearing. As the vehicle approached the area, a tricycle crossed the highway suddenly and stopped in the middle of the road.

The BJMP vehicle tried to avoid the tricycle, causing the driver to lose control of it, and the vehicle overturned.

"May isang tricycle na magyu-U-turn sana. So ito pong truck naman ng ating BJMP is approaching po papunta ng Daet, kung saan po iniwasan [niya yung tricycle, at] nagkaroon ng stumble," PLTCOL Augusto Manila, Officer in Charge of Labo MPS, said.

Authorities responded quickly and transported the injured to the hospital. One BJMP officer succumbed to his injuries.

The police are now searching for the tricycle driver.

"So far, po, ang ating imbestigasyon po... ginagawa pa po ngayon, so isa lang po ang nasawi, at yung iba po ay under medication pa po," Manila said.

BJMP-Camarines Norte is yet to release a statement as of this writing.
