Dawn fire broke out at the San Fernando Public Market in San Fernando town, south Cebu Province on July 11, 2024.
The fire struck at about 3 a.m. and was raised to fourth alarm.
The incident affected over 80 stalls and 18 market tenants, according to initial fire reports.
Damage was pegged at approximately P11 million.
SFO1 Stephen Villanueva of the Bureau of Fire Protection in San Fernando said that a man who is believed to be mentally unstable set allegedly on fire a stall “trapal” (a sheet of material used as a cover) at the vegetable section of the market.
A fire-out was declared at 5:19 a.m.
