A cadet at a maritime academy in Calamba City, Laguna, died after a senior officer allegedly ordered him to exercise as punishment for a violation.
Initial investigation of the Philippine National Police Regional Office 4-A (PRO-4A) revealed that the officer instructed the cadet to report to his cabin for an offense, according to Super Radyo dzBB's Luisito Santos.
The cadet was directed to do physical exercises as a penalty but experienced difficulty breathing and lost consciousness, according to a report by GMA News Online.
He was taken to the infirmary immediately and transferred later to the Global Medical Center of Laguna due to a weak pulse. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities said the cadet had just finished dinner when the incident occurred.
The officer has been turned over to the city police for investigation and appropriate action.
