Based on a letter from First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Manila Nilesh Kumar Rai, the Fugitive Unit of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) responded to a request on the arrest of an Indian national that went into hiding in Bacolod City.

The Intelligence Unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) discovered that the suspect is renting a house in a subdivision in Barangay Taculing.

The foreigner arrived in Bacolod City in 2022 and used the aliases Joginder Geyong and Kant Gupta, 40 years old.

Kant Gupta is the name printed on his passport and driver’s license and that he introduced himself as a Nepalese national.

The arrest was set on July 8, 2024.

“Namumuhay ito na as if normal lang like other Indian nationals. May mga kaso siyang murder, attempted murder, firearms law meron din. Medyo mabigat na mga kaso yan pero doon yun sa India at hindi sa atin,” Captain Dax Santillan, chief of Police Station 6 in Bacolod City, said.

BI pointed out that the Indian national is considered an undesirable alien who violated Commonwealth Act No. 613 or the Philippine Immigration Law.

According to BI, alias Kant Gupta is considered a fugitive of the Indian government. He is accused of leading a syndicate and is facing a life sentence in India. He is also accused of involvement in the Khalistani Terrorist Group.

Residents, however, have no idea that a fugitive lives in the subdivision.

According to Charlie Dolar, subdivision security guard, the Indian national has no record of any unruly behavior while residing in the subdivision.

“Parang mabait naman sa record namin. Hindi naman yan nakikipag-usap kasi kapag nagsalita, hindi namin maintindihan,” Dolar said.

The police turned over the suspect to the Bureau of Immigration on July 9, 2024.
