The local government of Kabacan in Cotabato has ordered a temporary ban on the entry and exit of live pig, pork products, and by-products in the town due to the threat of the African Swine Fever (ASF).

According to the local government, the move is aimed at preventing the spread of ASF as some towns in the province have already logged new cases.

These towns include Antipas, Makilala, President Roxas, and Pigcawayan.

Some barangays in Kabacan have already put checkpoints in place to stop the movement of pigs and pork meat from ASF-affected areas.

However, residents may transport live pigs, pork meat, and pork products only within the town and with supporting documents.

"Maari pa rin silang (residente) mag-travel ng kanilang mga products, pork products, mga buhay na baboy within the municipality, providing po na sumusunod sila sa ating mga protocol,” Kabacan Information Officer, Hessel Marc Osoteo, said.

The local government also said slaughtering pigs in the backyard is prohibited as this should only be done at the slaughterhouse.
