Bacolod City is one of nine cities in the Philippines, and the only city in Western Visayas, that made it to the 1,000 Top Cities in the World list, according to a study of Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2024.

Of the 1,000 top cities, Bacolod City made it to the 538th spot.

The study is based on the following categories – economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance on top of other key indicators. 

According to a statement of Mark Britton, director of City Services of Oxford Economics, cities are considered the driving force of the global economy.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bacolod City expressed delight at the recognition.

The LGU’s Local Economic Development and Promotion Office said that investors are expected to consider the recognition in determining business goals and decisions.

Further, the LGU considers the recognition as a tourism driver, most especially with the forthcoming Masskara Festival 2024.

Bacolod City celebrates Masskara Festival annually in October.

The other Philippine cities that made it to the roster are Manila on 256th spot, Cebu City on 436th, Cagayan de Oro City (Misamis Oriental) on 487th, Davao City on 500th, Angeles City (Pampanga) on 502nd, Dagupan City (Pangasinan) on 604th, Zamboanga City on 695th, and General Santos City (South Cotabato) on 723rd spot.

New York City in the United States of America tops the list.
